The best maccaroni cheese I've ever had!
We happened upon the Crags quite unexpectedly due to a flood at the bed and breakfast we had originally booked. You will simply not find a more gracious staff anywhere! They were wonderful! We loved being able to get to know the owner and his family. The atmosphere is great and the food was absolutely out of this world! We had to leave very early the next morning and the owner/chef came in early to prepare our breakfast for us. It really was above and beyond what we expected, and we were treated to a fabulous meal cooked to order and piping hot! My daughter in law said they served the best coffee she had on our entire trip in Scotland!

Hosts Alex and Victoria went out of their way to not only accomidate a large group of travelers but also made all of us feel very welcome. The Crags Hotel Pub is a warm and lively place to have a whisky and rub elbows with the locals (who were all wonderful and generous) Special thanks to Alex for arranging my pony trekking, it was my favorite all time experience in Scotland.

We enjoyed our stay at the Crags Hotel, we booked the 4 poster room and it was clean, cosy and comfortable. The room overlooks the main street and is directly above the bar. We were not disturbed by any street noise or as the hotel suggests any potential noise from the bar. The bar had just reopened after being renovated and although it still required a few finishing touches, it had a great atmosphere. The locals do make you very welcome and you can't help become involved in the conversations and continual winding up of each other, such as the taxi driver who had put petrol in his diesel taxi and it subsequently broke down on Doune bridge! Nothing was too much trouble for Snowy the barman or Alex the owner. The breakfast is, as other reviewers have said, excellent and black pudding superb.
“Wish we were back here!”

We booked to stay at the Crags for 2 nights this month as we needed to sort out our wedding plans. We extended our stay by another night as we enjoyed it so much. This is our 3rd time in Callander and it is the most beautiful place. Coming from Manchester where everything is hectic and constantly on the move really doesn't suit ourselves and the laid back feeling in the Crags hotel and in Callander in general is so relaxing we wanted to stay!

The Crags is a lovely hotel, full of character and the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in! Honestly it was so hard to get up in the morning! The room we stayed in which was on the top floor was full of character, beautiful sash windows and shutters which block out all the light. The staircase is lovely and while we were there it was really peaceful although the bar is being refurbished so that should be ready soon.

The best part about the place had to be Alex, he made us feel very welcome and showed an interest in our wedding plans, ringing a nearby hotel to ask where we needed to register our wedding. He made an amazing breakfast too. He was just generally a lovely guy, as was Ruth who was working in the little bar whilst we were there. It has to be said that the people really do make all the difference and you could not wish for better hosts than at the Crags.

We booked the Crags hotel as they welcome dogs and we really wanted to take our cocker spaniel Muttley with us on the trip. Muttley was in a crate nearly all of the time and I am not sure whether all guests bring a crate but there was no sign that dogs had stayed in the hotel, (no nasty smells or anything like that)

If you want a great base for some amazing walks, lovely hosts that can't do enough for you and a really chilled holiday then the Crags and Callander are perfect for you!

We will definitely be back

P.S sorry about the towel ;)

We arrived and parked at the car park at the rear of the hotel and viewed it with some trepidation. However, on venturing in we were given the warmest of welcomes and shown to two absolutely individual and newly renovated rooms on the top floor of the hotel. (One room particularly took our fancy with its "secret" door to the bathroom. You'll need to go and see it for yourself! Everything was spotlessly clean and all facilities were available eg hair drier, tea and coffee making equipment, trouser press and satellite televsion. The rooms also had a lovely selection of antique furniture totally in keeping with the decor. The hotel is in the process of being renovated and it looks absolutely super. The dining room and bar have been restored sensitively, with beautiful wooden floors and the whole character of the building is being maintained. Alex who welcomed us was a charming host and provided us with a superb breakfast the next morning. He was even kind enough to part with some of the absolutely delicious black pudding we had which was not actually locally sourced - so we had a lovely reminder of our stay. All in all we had a great time. Absolutely no complaints whatsoever.. I have no reservations about recommending this hotel to friends and we certainly intend returning! Full marks all round.

“Great hotel, great staff, great locals!”
second time t this hotel and wont be the last,we stayed in the superior four poster room which is immaculate and i would guess from their standards the other rooms would be the same. All of the staff from victoria and alex who own the hotel down to the bar staff, cleaners etc are all very welcoming and approachable, the hotel is right on the main street in an excellent position for seeing around town.Breakfast is gorgeous too (i reccomend the black pudding or the haggis both are great)! The bar in hotel is small but the locals all made us welcome just a real friendly little place. To sum it up in one word- fantastic!!
